Welcome to the Bill Pickett Rodeo - Rodeo For Kidz Sake Program 2012! We are proud and excited in announcing that the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo will be held once again at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD on September 21/22, 2012. We hope that you will be participating and will earmark the date for your students as one of their first educational based field trips and areas of study for the upcoming school year 2012-2013.

Once again we or offering a very special educational based program for school kids (upper elementary and middle school grades) and we cordially invite you and your students to attend. Our special "Rodeo For Kidz Sake" program is scheduled for September 21st, 2012 at 10:00 am (Prince George's County Show Place Arena), Upper Marlboro, MD 20772; Please Mark Your Calendars Now & Make Reservations ASAP. This is a special school program in which many of your local public, private and charter schools attend each year. This year, we expect higher than usual attendance so we encourage you to make your student, staff and transportation reservations as soon as possible.

In order to assist your staff in preparation for this special event, we will be providing you with a "Rodeo Activity Booklet" which can be used in the classroom or as a homework learning tool. In the booklet, teachers will find activities aligned with Maryland Common Core State Standards. These activities will help with introducing students to the subjects of the rodeo and its African American West history. The Activity Booklet was developed by the staff of the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Association and will be supplied to your school systems upon reservation(s) or request.

Rodeo Glossary
- CCSS 4.L.4: a. Consult reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation and determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and phrases.
WRITING -
-CCSS 1.W.2: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.
SOCIAL STUDIES - When Did It Happen?
-Standard 5.2.A.2a: Gather and interpret information about the past from informational sources and biographies.
MATHEMATICS - Bull Doggin' Standings
-CCSS 2.MD.10: Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problem using information presented in a bar graph.
