Bluebird Monitoring Training
Saturday, February 23, 10 - 12 noon, FREE Volunteer Opportunity
Over the years, a great deal of natural land has been cleared for
residential, industrial and agricultural development. In the process, old trees
that once provided habitat to cavity-nesting birds – including the Eastern
bluebird – have been cut down. The most important step that we can take to help
bring back the bluebird is to provide them with suitable nesting sites. A group
of volunteers will monitor the 20 nest boxes from around the site on a weekly
basis (March-August).Bluebird Monitoring Training
Saturday, February 23, 10 - 12 noon, FREE Volunteer Opportunity
During the Bluebird Monitor Training, volunteers will help prep the nesting boxes for this year’s bluebird inhabitants by cleaning and repairing nest boxes, and receive training on how to properly monitor the boxes throughout the season. Interested volunteers should email volunteers@accokeek.org.
