It's never too early to introduce your child to the wondrous world of science. Whether your child is a budding scientist or if you're looking for extra-special, extra-curricular enrichment activities, check out Port Discovery's Science Exposed Programs, designed for children in Kindergarten through Second Grade.
  
The Science of Small: Nanoscience Exposed! 

Series Dates: Saturday, March 2, 9, 16, and 23
 Time: 9 am - 10 am
Join Scientist Sarah in this 4-week program series for a unique exploration of the world of Nano, where you'll discover just how small Nano is; experience the fascinating things that can happen when things get small, and learn about new technologies that are being created with Nano!

Each week, you and your child will enjoy an engaging story and interactive demonstrations, followed by a science experiment. Participants will make their own NANO molecule; extract DNA; create a stained glass piece of art; learn about liquid body armor and more! After each class, you can enjoy a day of play in the museum.

Week 1:  Experience size and discover just how small Nano is.

Week 2:  Discover the unexpected things that can happen on the 
                 Nanoscale.

Week 3:  Explore how scientists study and build things that are
                 too small to see.

Week 4:  Learn where Nano can be found in nature and develop
                 new Nanotechnologies.

EcoKids: Ecoscience Exposed!

Series Dates: Saturday, April 20 & 27, May 4 & 11
Time: 9 am - 10 am

Habitats...Food webs... Conservation... Oh my! Join Scientist Sarah in this 4-week program series for a unique exploration on how living things relate and interact with each other and their environment. 

Each week, you and your child will enjoy an engaging story and interactive demonstrations, followed by a hands-on science project.  Budding scientists can make their own terrarium; dissect an owl pellet; create paper from recycled materials; and fashion a fish. Plus, predict the effects of acid rain; learn about Venus Fly Trap adaptation and more!  After each class, you can enjoy a day of play in the museum.
   
Week 1:  Learn about habitats and ecosystems  

Week 2:  Explore Food Webs and Life Cycles through dissection 

Week 3:  Uncover the mystery of natural selection and see how organisms 
                 adapt to live in their environment.

Week 4:  Find out what you can do to protect our environment. Filtrate your own
                 water and learn how to make paper.

The Science of Small and EcoKids program series are open to children in Kindergarten through Second Grade and will be limited to 15 children per series on a first come, first-served basis.

Program Fee:
Includes program admission for 1 child and 1 adult for one, 4-week session of your choice.

You may add up to 1 sibling or friend if child meets age requirement.
Additional child: $50 members/$60 non-members, per session.

One additional adult is welcome to attend. However, non-member adults will be charged $13.95 each week he/she chooses to attend. Member adults are free. Payment is due upon registration.

Discount parking is available at Harbor Park Garage.

Important Information

  • Program is designed for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
  • Each child participant must be accompanied by an adult during each week of the program series. Children may not be dropped off.
  • There is a maximum limit of 2 child participants per adult. Siblings or other children not participating in the program are not permitted to stay in the museum for the duration of the program.
  • One additional adult may attend the session. Non-member adults will be charged $13.95 per week to cover the cost of admission to the Museum. Payment will be due upon registration. Member adults are free.
  • Make up classes will only be scheduled if class is canceled by Port Discovery as a result of inclement weather or other emergency. The instructor will contact families directly if class is canceled. 
  • Receipt of full payment is required to reserve your child's spot and is non-refundable unless Port Discovery cancels the series.
  • Class size is limited to 15 child participants on a first-come, first-served basis. If we cannot meet the minimum number of participants, the series will be canceled and payment will be refunded.
