Smithsonian Science on the Bay Fall Family Day
Saturday September 15th, 2012
10 am-2 pm
Registration is Required for Entry, Activities, Food,
and Boat Rides
Registration required online: Visit our website at www.serc.si.edu and click the link on
our home page.
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center is proud to
present the second of two new events (due to the major construction on our site
we are hosting two small events instead of the one large Open House).
This Family Day will feature a behind the scenes
glimpse at our research and science. Visit with SERC researchers to learn about
how climate change is impacting tree growth, miconutrients affect the Bay
watersheds, how ecosystems respond to higher CO2 levels, and about the world of
aquatic bottom-dwelling creatures affected by humans and climate change. There
will also be a live K-9 search and rescue demonstration, and you can drop by
their mobile command center to learn about trail safety. Visitors may also
register for one of three one hour boat rides on the Rhode River ($5
person), try your hand at seining or crabbing, visit an oyster bar
community and its creatures, or create a take-home craft. Bring a picnic lunch
or register online for food from Panera.
