Sale! Our Exciting 2013-14 Season
The Perfect DC Destination
for Families
Looking for some family fun time? Look no further than
Discovery Theater and the Smithsonian.
Our performances make the ideal centerpiece for an
engaging, convenient, and economical in-town excursion. With shows
geared towards families and a wide range of ages, you’re sure to
find plenty of possibilities.
See a show and then continue the fun (and find some
great learning opportunities) at one of the Smithsonian’s many
museums and galleries. Hang out on the National Mall. Bring a
picnic. Toss a ball. The beauty and the amazing educational
resources at the heart of our capital city are just a Metro ride
away.
And it all starts at Discovery Theater! Discover what
our new season holds for your family.
Rockin’ weekday fun for the youngest music fans:
Clear the floor! Tot Rock gets kids moving
to great bands—and adults love to join in the fun, too. We've got
four daytime dance party concerts planned this season, presented
with Jammin’ Java Coffee House and Music Club. With Joanie's Halloween Party to
kick-off the series, there’s no reason to scare up an excuse
to dance like crazy with this energetic Brooklyn-based, kindie-rock
band, Joanie
Leeds and The Nightlights.
Spend a hometown holiday with
us:
We have some great ways to celebrate the seasons Smithsonian
style. Heidi and Sam, two wacky puppeteers, and Ooey Gooey,
the most adorable worm in the circus, take a playful, interactive
look at some favorite characters from children’s rhymes and stories
in Ooey Gooey Thanksgiving
with Barefoot Puppets.
There’s a dinosaur holiday puppet
bash in December followed by the
ever-popular Seasons of Light.
Back for its 15th season, this show celebrates the history and
customs of Ramadan, Devali, Sankta Lucia, Chanukah, Los Posados,
Kwanzaa, Christmas, and the First Nations’ tradition of the Winter
Solstice in an interactive event that bridges communities and
cultures.
We’re part of the Kid Euro
Festival:
Each fall, the 27 countries of the European Union
sponsor a month-long festival of free performances for children all
around town. In November, Discovery Theater hosts the
inventive solo performer Ulrike Kley from Germany in Pappelappap: Cardboard Play Time—proving
that the possibilities are endless and that an everyday cardboard
box can contain a world of theatrical fun. (Check out kidseurofestival.org
