Restaurants propose creative, delicious and romantic opportunities to celebrate Valentine's Day, and many offer specials. We checked with four in the Annapolis area to see what they plan to dish up for the romantic evening. Traditionally, it's a busy evening, so be sure to make reservations early so you don't miss out on these specials.

Eight appetizers, including oysters Rockefeller, saffron shrimp and portabella mushrooms, will be available, followed by three salad choices and eight mouth-watering entrees. Selections include steak au poivre, rack of lamb, tournedos filet with shiitake mushrooms, lobster Newburg, salmon and sea scallops, and Chilean sea bass over couscous. A la carte pricing.

Luna Blu is serving up a four-course meal with choice of four appetizers, two salads, four entrees and three in-house prepared desserts. The feast planned to celebrate Felice San Valentino at Maria's consists of a glass of prosecco, followed by choice of two soups (zuppe), two salads (insalata), two appetizers (antipasti), choice of four entrées, and either tiramisu or cannoli for dessert. The set menu offers four courses including a cider or champagne toast and a rose for the ladies. Soft drinks and iced teas are included. The following is the only menu available on Valentine's Day: Cheese fondue selections: creamy crab cheese, loaded baked potato cheese or cherry pecan cheese; Salad selections: wedge salad or pear and bleu cheese salad; Fondue-style entree consisting of: lobster tail, balsamic filet, basil pesto chicken, or shrimp and mushroom sacchetti; Chocolate fondue selections: berries and creme dark chocolate or caramel nut milk chocolate. Cost: $70 per person; tax and gratuity is additional.

Four-course dinner is inspired by the historic American Heritage Chocolate line. Includes sea dish chowder with chocolate dusted Chincoteague oysters and Historic Inn popovers, lobster cakes with chocolate infused corn fritters and fresh tarragon aioli, sage and rosemary marinated veal chops with chocolate port reduction and sides, and white chocolate bread pudding with rum sauce or lavender infused creme brule with shaved chocolate and fresh fruit. Each course is paired with wine. Cost: $100 per person with wine pairing, $70 per person without wine; tax and gratuity not included. Reservations required.
