Tour at the National Gallery of Art

Hi! Yesterday, all agreed they enjoyed a wonderful learning day exploring the National Gallery of Art through a Home School Docent-led tour  "Elements of Art." They explored various Modern artists in the East Building including Matisse with hands on activities including sketching, creating their own designs, and recreating a matisse using colorful appliqués.

Did you miss out?? Well guess what. Bonus! Here is another chance this month to join us! Please RSVP by Friday if you would like to join AAHA on Feb. 20 at a 10:00 tour.  The topic?   Exploring Modern Art: Breaking the Rules. These tours are inquiry-based rather than lecture-based. The tour will consist of 5 to 6 stops where students will be encouraged to look carefully and discuss works of art. The docent will ask open-ended questions to start the discussion and then add information as the students respond to the works of art.

Join us, because sometimes you just have to "break the rules!"

This tour is designed for 4-6th grade elementary school aged students though interested younger/older siblings are welcome! The NGA expects that as a chaperone you are responsible for the conduct of your child during the tour. As we are trying to create a nurturing art experience for everyone on the tour and respect the museum, if for any reason your child is disruptive on the tour, they may be asked to be excused.

PS. Please join us at the AAHA Meeting on Feb. 11, 7-9 at the Accokeek Library: "Volunteerism and Home Schooling."
