Come to the 12th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are honorary chairs for the event. The festival is free and open to the public. Festival poster by Rafael López.

This year's festival will feature authors, poets and illustrators in several pavilions, including two Sunday-only pavilions: Science Fiction, Fantasy & Graphic Novels and Special Programs. Festival-goers can meet and hear firsthand from their favorite poets and authors, get books signed, hear special entertainment, have photos taken with storybook characters and participate in a variety of activities.

The Sounding Good Music Program

There are still spaces available for the fall semester of The Sounding Good Music Program! 

After completing our first successful year, we are ready to resume the program at a new location.  

The Orientation/General Interest Meeting will be held Thursday, September 6, 5:30 pm-6:30 pm, at the Outreach Christian Center, located at 6701 Clinton Manor Drive, Clinton, MD 20735. Meet our Director and staff and learn more about this exciting program!  Space is limited, so please call 301-856-1508 as soon as possible!  (Leave your contact information so that we may let you know if seating is still available.)

Beginners will meet Mondays, starting September 10, 5:30 pm—6:30 pm.  Intermediates/Advanced students will meet Thursdays beginning September 13, 5:30 pm—6:30 pm.  The cost is $55/month for the first student, with a discount for siblings.   Instrument rental or purchase is not provided.  If you need assistance locating an instrument for your child, please call us at 301-856-1508.  If your child already has an instrument, please have him/her bring it the first day of class.  The Director will conduct an overall assessment related to the teaching areas in the Music Instruction Plan.

Fishing for Beginners

The Park and Planning has added another public beginner's for children in the Southern Maryland on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Park and Planning is offering another public beginner's fishing class for children in the Southern Maryland area. The Park Rangers are the instructors for the class. The classes are fun and informative and good for science enrichment. The rods and worms are provided for the children. Below are the details on the class. Class size is small and spaces are limited to 8 children. Pass the information on.  Take care.

This program is for youth ages 6- 12 with little or no experience. Only 7 spaces are available. A Day at Goddard

We have availability for home school groups to join us on January 14 2013
for a Day at Goddard.  Activities include a facilities tour, a
career-oriented meet and greet with scientist and a lab activity conducted
on center. This trip will increase student¹s interest in science, expose
them to potential careers in science, and increase their awareness of the
research NASA conducts, not to mention help support your curriculum and give
you a day of fun!

Living Classrooms Shipboard Adventure

Class from 9 - 2:30 with a lunch break (please bring a bagged lunch)

Cost is $35 per passenger (adults and children ages 8 and up)

One adult is required per family.

From the website: Leadership and teamwork are key objectives as students
work together to raise and lower sails, trawl for marine life, perform
scientific tests, and explore the commerce, history, natural resources, and
ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay.

More info: On each trip students will have a chance to fish using a trawl
net and then examine and identify their catch. Other lessons include water
quality testing, aquatic life dissections, plankton sampling, buoyancy,
benthic grabs and more. Every student gets a chance to steer the boat and
learn to navigate alongside the Captain!
