Developing a High School Plan: Sample 4-year Plans

How do you plan a program for your high school homeschooler? What subjects do you teach and when? How do you evaluate credits? Determine grades for a course? What about the need for a transcript and diploma? This seminar will help you organize your thoughts and begin laying the groundwork for a viable four-year plan.

High School Transcript Clinic and Recordkeeping Help

Creating a high school transcript is easy yet a vital part of your child’s high school records. We’ll guide you through transcript essentials, evaluation of credit, grading guidelines and scales, and calculation of grade point averages (GPA’s). You’ll receive sample transcripts depicting other formats for you to consider. In addition, you’ll learn about necessary record keeping for high school and how to track your student’s progress through the high school years.

The College Admissions Process:  The Homeschooled Student's Guide

You are not only your child’s teacher, you are also his guidance counselor! Find out how to maneuver through the entire college admissions process, from narrowing down the selection of colleges to filling out college applications, applying for financial aid, and asking the right questions that will help you discern whether your child is spiritually, academically, and emotionally prepared for college.

Preparing Your Teen For Life

The high school years present an opportune time to develop skills young adults will utilize the rest of their lives. Learn about the importance of teaching finance, health care, car ownership, job preparation, spiritual principles, and more. All of these areas will benefit your teens when they take that giant step into independence and adulthood. A list of suggested resources will be provided.

National Gallery of Art Teen Studio

TEEN STUDIO (GRADES 10—12) Watercolor: Andrew Wyeth October 11 and 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Education Studio Online registration for both sessions begins at noon on Wednesday, October 1. Spend a Saturday at the Gallery looking at works of art, experimenting with studio materials and techniques, and meeting other teens who are interested in art! Visit the exhibition Andrew Wyeth: Looking Out, Looking In and experiment with color-mixing techniques. Led by artists and museum educators, each five-hour workshop includes an interactive tour in the galleries, group conversation, art instruction, and open studio time to experiment with materials and techniques. Accokeek Teen book club

I’d like to invite any of the 13-18 year old homeschoolers to join us on the third Tuesday of the month, at 2:30 pm at the Accokeek Library. Last year’s group voted at the end of the year to do Tolkien as the theme, so we are reading the Lord of the Rings series. Each book in the series is broken into two “books”, so for October we will be doing The Fellowship of the Ring, book one (the first half). For November we will discuss The Fellowship of the Ring, book two (the second half) and so on until we finish all three books in the series. For the last two months we have the opportunity to screen the movies at the library. Gayle Oliver has offered us a great deal of support from the library for the book club this year and I would love to see some old faces and maybe some new ones! National Building Museum’s 2014-2015 Homeschool Days

We’re pleased to announce that registration is now open for all of the National Building Museum’s 2014-2015 Homeschool Days:

The Museum’s Homeschool Day programs are interactive and complement curricula in math, science, social studies, language arts, music, and art. Children can explore the people, processes, and materials that create buildings and places by becoming city planners, designers, and engineers. These programs accommodate children ages 4–14 and a range of ability levels and learning styles, and they encourage teamwork and problem-solving skills. Programs are $10/child. Discounted admission for the Museum’s exhibitions is also available.

Godly Home Educating Mothers 2014-2015

It is so very hard to believe September is already upon us!  That means it is time for the Annual Kick-off Meeting for the 2014-2015 school year of Godly Home Educating Mothers (GHEM).  

The meeting will be held at Grace Brethren Church of Clinton (6501 Surratts Road) in the Fellowship Hall.  

Join us for food, fellowship and fun as we begin another year of homeschooling.  

Godly Home Educating Mothers (GHEM) is an outreach ministry for homeschooling mothers.  Through various programs, GHEM sponsors monthly events and activities that minister to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of homeschool moms.  

With the principles of Titus 2: 3-5, GHEM provides an environment that offers the encouragement and support that the homeschooling mom’s need.  GHEM programs are open to all homeschooling moms in Prince George's County and the surrounding communities.
