Mt. Oak - Homeschool thru High school Agenda

Just a reminder that we have a GREAT agenda for our Home School thru high school meeting for 7pm on Monday August 5th at Mt Oak Methodist Church (14110 Mt Oak Rd, Mitchellville, MD).

Here is the line up:
1)Michele Herring (overview with a focus on MD state graduation requirements and transcripts...I have interviewed 2 admissions officers from local colleges and one Dean)
2)Sam Fatzinger (concurrent enrollment with community college)
3)Ann-Marie Gorman (Homeschool at home all 4 years)
4)Carl Goode (SAT and ACT specialist and info about what colleges are looking for as well as how to prepare for the exam)

We will have a Q&A time too.

Monthly Homeschool Workshops

Third Thursday of the month, September–May, 1:15–3:30 p.m.
Members: $5 per child, per workshop
Non-members: $8 per child, per workshop

Registration for the 2013-2014 Workshop Series will begin on August 1, 2013.  Registration forms must be received by the Friday before the workshop. Phone registrations will not be accepted.

Explore the Walters through workshops designed exclusively for homeschool students. New this year, students ages 13-16 are invited to participate in our monthly workshop series! Participants enjoy an introduction to the museum, a guided tour, studio activity, and post-visit materials.  Learn more about the exciting topics we will explore this school year and register online by clicking on the appropriate session and age group below. You may also download and mail/fax your completed registration form pdf. Registration form (PDF) Emailed or faxed registration forms will be confirmed via e-mail within (2) two weeks of receipt.  Thank you for your patience.

End of Summer FUN for Kids!

Before the kids head back to school, enjoy some of those last days of summer at Port Discovery. We have many cool programs and performances you won't want to miss! 

Looking for quieter day of play? Join us on Play Date Mondays in August, where you can enjoy the Museum without the crowds of camp groups.

Don't miss our annual Tortoise and the Hare Day on Saturday, August 10th. Make your own bunny ears and   meet a real hare and tortoise (along with other cute animals) from Wildlife Adventures!

Join us on our Target Family Fun Night (August 16th) and participate in the DIY Shoe Clinic from 5 pm - 7 pm. Bring a pair of sneakers or shoes and work with local artists who will help transform those ordinary shoes to EXTRAORDINARY!  

Just a reminder that Port Discovery's Maintenance Weeks take place during the month of September.  Beginning September 3rd through September 30th, the Museum is open Friday through Sunday only, and is closed Monday through Thursday. During this time, all current Port Discovery members can enjoy 1/2 off general admission at the Maryland Zoo. If you're Museum membership is expiring, renew today and save 10%!
