From: Dr. Richard Berg
Due to financial issues affecting the University, Dr. Bobrowsky is no longer working at the Physics Department, and I have been asked to continue the Physics is Phun programs.
We welcome you to the third program in the 31st year of Physics is Phun. The topic for this program is ENERGY AND MOTION; the center of mass, Newton's laws of motion, and mechanical energy will be surveyed. The primary goals of Physics is Phun are to provide a supplement for high school students in their study of physics, and to present physics demonstrations in a way to increase student interest in science and physics.
The programs this week will be on Thursday 7 March, Friday 8 March, and Saturday 9 March. The hands-on segment begins at 7:00 PM, and the lecture segment runs from 7:30 PM until about 8:45 PM.
You will find links, to the PowerPoint slide show for this program and the script with list of demonstrations that will be included in the program, near the bottom of the Physics is Phun web page:
http://www.physics.umd.edu/lecdem/outreach/phph
You will also find a link for directions to the program location in the Physics Lecture Halls.
If you have some experience with physics and would like to help with the hands-on demonstration pre-show, please e-mail me at reberg@umd.edu, or contact Linda O'Hara at 301-405-5982 or lohara@umd.edu .
Feel free to contact me by e-mail at reberg@umd.edu if you have other questions regarding the program.
Regards,
Dick Berg
