We are thrilled to announce southern Maryland favorite SAM GROW will be headlining the event! These rising stars will have just opened for Kelli Pickler this summer and performed at the WMZQ Fall Fest before taking our main stage at Bark in the Park. Sam Grow's infectious blend of country rock will be an amazing addition to an already fabulous event!

The money raised from this event goes directly to the care of the animals. Your participation and support provides shelter and care for lost, injured, sick, and abandoned animals right here in Charles County. 

Also new this year is our  Run Like an Animal 5k & Fun Run. 

5k prizes are awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers and the top 2 male and females finishers in each age group, and all participants receive a free event shirt. Click here to learn more.

  • Abstract: The future of environmental problem-solving is education. The U.S. is investing in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to better prepare students to face these coming environmental challenges and the drawbacks of a nation falling behind developmentally. China similarly faces impending devastation from environmental degradation including water scarcity, declining water quality, and regional climate change. Like the U.S., China needs to expand STEM education to better prepare for future challenges related to environmental sustainability as well as political, societal, and economical sustainability. The natural progression of society places this responsibility in the hands of future generations. Some key concepts in environmental and oceanographic science are already taught in schools in the U.S. and China, but incorporation of these concepts into current and existing hands-on STEM lesson plans will generate early interest in youth STEM learning through creative methodology and practical application.

These activities are meant to initiate interest and enthusiasm for STEM participation in academic and career choices, using the outstanding USNA resources as a foundation.

Our unique approach is defined by a project based curriculum derived from our ABET and Middle States accredited engineering and science programs, focusing on current topics of faculty research, and using a pyramid structure with practicing technologists, educators, and mentors at the top.

Round House Theatre - Education Programs

One of the largest and most acclaimed professional theatre companies in the Washington, DC metro area, Round House Theatre is led by Producing Artistic Director Ryan Rilette, who joined the company in August 2012. Based in Montgomery County, Maryland, Round House Theatre produces nearly 200 theatrical performances each season at its 400-seat Bethesda theatre and 150-seat black box theatre in downtown Silver Spring. In addition, the company operates an education center in Silver Spring and annually reaches thousands of patrons there and across the region with strong education and outreach programs.

Round House Theatre is a member of LORT (League of Resident Theatres), TCG (Theatre Communications Group), and LOWT (League of Washington Theatres). The theatre is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with major support from Montgomery County, the Maryland State Arts Council (an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the National Endowment for the Arts), and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.

Afterschool Universe - Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD

Afterschool Universe, an astronomy afterschool program for
middle-schoolers, has an upcoming training workshop to be held on
September 23-24 at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.  The
deadline for signing up is September 14.

This will be a 2-day comprehensive, in-person training that will prepare
you to lead our program or train others to do so.  We cover a lot of
material in this time, so please plan to be on time and stay all day on
both days.  After successfully completing this training, you will
receive a certificate which documents your participation.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no way to participate in this
training at a distance.

This training is free to all participants, and contingent upon
sufficient signups.  Please note that we cannot cover travel expenses if
you need to travel to attend one of these trainings.  Also please note
that due to government facility security considerations, we will only be
accepting US Citizens for this training.  You can sign up for this

Please note that while anybody can access the online program resources
or attend one of our in-person trainings, the curriculum is targeted at
kids in out-of-school-time programs in the middle-school age range
(rising fifth graders to eighth graders), and this training will be
tailored towards people that work with those groups.  The materials to
run our program mostly consists of stuff that is easily obtainable at
the grocery store, Kmart, etc., with only a few materials that need to
be purchased at specialized retailers.
